Lee Fields joins host Talia Schlanger

After releasing his first single 50 years ago, today’s guest shares songs from his 2019 album, It Rains Love. It’s Lee Fields. He’s holding down the fort in an ever-shrinking circle of classic era soul singers, with one of the heaviest bands around – The Expressions. We’ll hear a live performance from them today. And Lee tells stories about growing up in North Carolina, where his parents ran a speakeasy on the weekends, and we’ll hear about the advice legendary preacher and singer, Solomon Burke, had for him.
