Allison Russell joins Nashville correspondent Jessie Scott

For two decades Allison Russell has been making music in bands like Po’ Girl, Birds of Chicago, and more recently, Our Native Daughters. On the next World Cafe, she shares how 4 years of writer’s block ended after Rhiannon Giddens asked her to join Our Native Daughters and how that led to Allison’s solo debut. It’s an album that reflects on racism, her painful childhood, and what helped her through.
