World Cafe Playlist for 02/17/2021

Encore: Brittany Howard joins host Stephen Kallao (Hr 1); Encore: William Bell joins host Talia Schlanger (Hr 2)

World Cafe looks back to some memorable sessions from the last few years, like Brittany Howard’s visit in 2019. The Alabama Shakes frontwoman had just released her solo debut, Jaime, and since then, it was named Album Of The Year by NPR Music and nominated for several Grammys. Brittany shares the story behind that record and performs live. Then in the second hour, we travel back to 1968 for a look inside an integrated Stax Records – soul singer William Bell was there and shares about the incredible music they released that year, while racial tension broiled outside.
