Songhoy Blues joins host Stephen Kallao
When you learn their backstory, it’s a wonder Songhoy Blues formed at all – After militant groups drove lead singer Aliou Touré from his hometown in Mali, he fled to the country’s capital, where he linked up with bandmates despite a nation-wide ban on music. Over the past 8 years, the group has taken off, playing festivals around the world, and sharing the stage with Gorillaz and Alabama Shakes. Today, Aliou talks with host Stephen Kallao about the political unrest in Mali, and we’ll hear Songhoy Blues perform music from Optimisme, their new album out tomorrow.
